IBM is in a quandary. When the AS/400 was announced three years ago, the folks at IBM were certain that every System/36 shop would give its right arm to migrate immediately. A lot of S/36 shops did place early orders, and many of them followed through and migrated. But, there are still a lot of System/36s out there, humming along happily, doing their thing. Despite the best efforts of IBM marketing representatives to convince System/36 users that they no longer are using a viable machine, migration is not occurring at anything approaching the rate once anticipated. Herein lies IBM's problem: What to do about S/36 shops? |
