Roger Pence to delve into Wings features and architecture, IBM's Open Access RPG Edition, green-screen to GUI modernization, and ASNA's view of the future of RPG and IBM i.

ASNA today announced two free ASNA Wings half-day workshops in Raleigh/Durham and Cincinnati on September 28 and 29 respectively. In these workshops ASNA's Roger Pence will show how to use ASNA Wings to modernize RPG green-screen user interfaces. These workshops follow two successful previous half-day workshops in Chicago and New York City last May.

ASNA Wings is a revolutionary new product that modernizes IBM i, RPG character-based user interfaces. Wings is a member of the ASNA Monarch family of RPG modernization products. Using IBM's Open Access RPG Edition, all RPG programming logic and file IOs remain on the IBM i. ASNA Wings converts green screens into browser-based replacements.

In these fast-track, hands-on workshops, Roger explains IBM's Open Access Wings architecture and then shows how to use Wings. He also shows how to add vital enhancements to the presentation layer—without needing to change or retest your server-side RPG logic. He'll also discuss the business reasons for application modernization and how Wings fits into a long-term application migration strategy.

During the event, Roger covers the details of basic modernization with Wings but also digs into sophisticated modernization techniques. He covers many techniques including how to use Ajax for a more responsive user interface, how to integrate your green-screen application with external data sources, such as Google Maps, and how to present a professional user interface with CSS and HTML.

If you've ever been to one of Roger's presentations, you know his presentations aren't your typical half-day, try-to-stay-awake-while-being-endlessly PowerPointed sales presentations. Roger keeps things lively, personal, and refreshing while delivering the information you need to make important decisions about your RPG application portfolio.

"This isn't a typical infomercial sales presentation," says Pence. "During this presentation I use Wings live, with a real IBM i RPG program, to show you how to modernize an application. You can understand Wings very quickly when you see it in action. Attendees will see for themselves how quickly Wings can produce a dramatically better UI."

After the presentation, Roger will lead a group discussion about the state of the IBM i over a working lunch. You'll have the chance to voice your opinions and concerns about all things IBM i in a networking type environment that hopefully is enlightening to all in attendance. One lucky attendee from each city will win a new iPad2.
