Subject: Business Plan Contest – part of the "Venture Capital in the Computer Security Industry" panel
The Data Protection Summit announces a contest as part of its special session on "Venture Capital in the Computer Security Industry" to be held Thursday, March 13 from 8:30--10:00 am at the Hilton Irvine/Orange County Airport.
We expect to have an outstanding panel of VCs, namely Juan-Antonio Carballo, general partner, Argon Venture Partners; Donald Docter, senior investment manager, Intel Capital; Darius Sankey, partner, Zone Ventures (a Draper affiliate); Jawad Ansari, chairman, Corporate Metrix Investments (plus others to be named later). Pacific Ridge Capital VP Technology Nathan Joyner will be the organizer. STEC business executive Vikram Karnaker will be the moderator, and BG Strategy business consultant Sara Rauchwerger will be the lead consultant.
To enter the contest, prepare a business plan related to computer security (hardware, software, peripherals, accessories, services, or systems). Plans must not exceed one page in length (10-point type) and must be submitted using the VC Business Plan form available at the Data Protection Summit Web site (look for the Big Red Button). Submit your plan via the form by midnight Friday, Feb. 15 (Pacific Time). All submissions will be kept confidential, and no copies will be retained by anyone.
Your business plan will be reviewed by the distinguished panel of VCs. Our panel will grade the submissions on a 1-10 scale (overall, technology, marketing, and organization), and we will award prizes to the top three at the end of the panel session. First prize will be an Apple iPod. The top three winners will get to make 10-minute presentations of their plans at the Data Protection Summit as part of the session (we will notify the winners by Friday, Feb. 23).
Everyone who submits a plan will get a grade sheet with comments by email. Panelists’ decisions are final, and in the case of a tie, the winner will be determined by the organizer.
Take this opportunity to see if that idea you’ve had floating around is something that the folks with the money like. You also may get good press coverage and develop new contacts if you impress the panel.
To participate in the contest for free, sign up for an exhibit pass on the Website. Or you can tell the registration people you are a "friend of Vikram Karnaker." Since Vikram is a financial wizard, he obviously has no real friends, so we will know you're a legitimate attendee!
