Performance Testing: Best Practices
Why do so many applications perform so poorly? And what can be done to change that?
Testing applications for performance and scalability has become an afterthought in the software development community. According to Forrester Research, nearly 85 percent of large companies (more than $1 billion in revenue) have reported incidents of significant application performance problems. Why is this is happening? How can we improve this state of affairs?
The key is the adoption of a formal performance-testing methodology. This article presents our methodology, complete with prerequisites, testing phases, and formal capacity assessment. The focus here is on performance testing rather than functional testing.

I spend a lot of time on the Internet. Probably too much time. But I do it with a purpose: to bring the latest information to you, dear reader. I strive to bring you the latest advancements in technology that apply to our beloved platform, and the only way to do that is to diligently scour the 'net.
I also try to bring you anything new from the folks at IBM, the folks on whom our platform depends. And while I usually hear about new things in the usual manner—discussions at conferences, telephone calls, executive briefings, beta programs, that sort of thing—this latest bit of technology I literally stumbled upon by pure chance during my traipsing (professional traipsing, mind you) of the Internet.
