Scanning a QR Code from a product label or shelf tag can quickly take someone to a vendor's Web site for more information or special offers.

Integrated Custom Software's IBM i-based FormSprint software now supports QR Codes along with the Intelligent Mail Barcode, PDF417, and most other common bar codes.

Smartphone users take advantage of QR Codes (short for Quick Response) to obtain additional information from what is displayed, such as product information. First designed for the automotive industry, the QR Code's ability to store relatively large amounts of data led to its adoption by smartphone manufacturers. Scanning the QR Code from a product label or shelf tag can quickly take someone to a vendor's Web site for more information and sometimes special offers.

The supported QR Code is V6 or V16, depending on the length of the data stream. The error correction code is level H. Multiple input lines can be coded. A maximum of 362 characters can be encoded if the data stream contains only letter, numbers or special characters $ % * - . / ;  if other characters are included, the UTF-8 binary coding will be used, and the data length is limited to 248 characters.

The QR Code is square and scalable. As with all FormSprint bar codes, spool file data can be selected and converted simply by indicating a size and placing an X next to the desired bar code type.
