I have been asked to work up a presentation on such things as: <ul> Pop-up Menus Pull downs Pull down Subfiles Single and Multi Choice fields Single and Multi Choice Subfiles Dynamic Window sizing and positioning [/list] It would be helpful if I could receive some general feedback. Are these features being used by you or someone in your shop? Do you feel that these features are useful, or that they might be useful? If you are not using these features, would you like to learn about them? Any general comments? TIA, Dave

David, I have done some of these. Pop-up Menus - I wrote a WINDOW DDS menu program that read a file keyed by menu/user to determine what options they could take. I passed the selected option to a CL. I used the cursor location to determine where to place the WINDOW when it popped up, and also to determine where the cursor was when the user pressed a function, enter, mouse key. Pull downs - Set up a program to do this a few years back. Was okay, but I am sure someone else has a better example. Also, I don't have an example with me. Pull down Subfiles - Have not done this, but suspect it would be controlled by the subfile cursor location DDS Keyword. Single and Multi Choice fields - Don't understand the request. Single and Multi Choice Subfiles - See last statement. Dynamic Window sizing and positioning - In dds, you can specify a variable that controls the size and position. You can also let the DDS default to position the WINDOW "out of the way" by not putting in the START IN position. Just mark the field above with a "Y". Hope this helps, Bret

David, The only two I have had occasion to work with are: Single Choice Fields - I tried using this, but ran into problems because I needed several to appear on one screen and (as I recall) I could not get more than one to work. Also, there was an issue with the amount of on screen space that it required - at any rate, I gave up! Single Choice Subfile - I have recently used this in a window that is displayed when the user presses F4 - the things I liked about it was that the currently selected subfile record can be 1)selected by cursor postion; 2)reverse imaged; and 3) selected when the enter key is pressed. As for the other items, I would be interested in reading how they work and real life examples of their use. HTH, Joe

A few years ago I started using some of these, and push buttons too, at a client site on a project that I was working. No one, including myself, had any experience with any of these, but after reading the manuals a little I got the hang of it. I didn't get a chace to use the pulldown's or pop-up's but what I gave them they thought was really cool. They could now use a mouse to point and click and it gave them a 'windows' feel. Kind of like moving ahead and getting off of the 'green screen' effect. I recently got back at that client site and am happy to report that they are doing more of the same. How much more I'm not sure of yet, but at least they are continuing to use it. I'm hoping I can bring pulldown's and pop-up's into my current project. It makes the users a little happy too. I'm all for it. Tom

Bret, I hope I did not mislead you. I was not looking for a how-to, rather, I was looking to see if there was any interest, and if people were using these facilities. Never the less, thanks for the reply. Dave

Dave, Run over to Spatula City and get me a nice long handled Teflon (c) spatula, so I can get this egg off my face. :p Bret
