The "latest" IBM RPG fad is free format RPG. I've seen it. I've actually seen it years before under another name - COBOL. Dave

George, I would press on. RPGIV uses many techniques that will help you with Java and vice-versa. Also, it is unlikely that you will be asked to rewrite an entire RPG system in Java in the near future; there will be a blend for quite a while. David Morris

I took the test 266 to get the "IBM certified specialist AS/400 RPG IV Programmer" and I have been studying for the next test 267 "RPG IV Developer" but I read and article by Jim D. Barnes in the issue of May 2001 that discouraged me. Besides, I am trying to learn Java to improve my skills. Does anybody know what is the direction IBM want to give to RPG IV?.

George - You may want to subscribe to IBM's eServer magazine iSeries edition. You may do so by calling (218) 723-9558 or e-mail iseries@superfill.com. The February 2002 issue contains two articles on this subject - one titled "Legacies Still Got Game" and the other titled "Java on the iSeries (AS/400) integrates well with legacy COBOL and RPG programs".
