Way back in the early AS400 days I was told by a SE from IBM's raleigh office to "NEVER" key a physical file. I didn't and don't. I did inherit one a few years ago before RAID and in a freak accident we lost a drive. When I restored from tape we found that the access path on the physical file was damaged and we were unable to restore the most current version of the file. Now it's today and we have RAID and all that stuff. What is the latest about keyed physicals and why? TIA

This subject has been visited many times in these fora. The bottom line is: It all depends. There are situations where a keyed physical is preferable, and situations where it isn't. There are many variables involved in the decision making process. Your best answer will depend on your own set of circumstances. Dave
