Hi Even though Indian companies have a mature model as far as offshore development is concerned, as a person who works in one such company working on a project for a major UK client, I feel there is a lot of scope of improvement in the way the Indian companies work. The capability Maturity Model Certification that Indian companies have, is pretty easy to get. Whether all that is mentioned as a part of certification is actually followed is another question. The certification looks good on paper and shows the company's profile in good light. There are lots of things that US companies need to look into before they give their projects offshore. In my personal experience, it takes almost an year to actually start enjoying the benefits of the offshore model. Cheers Arun Prasad R

Offshore Outsourcing Grows To Global Proportions Feb. 11, 2002 U.S. companies extend their search beyond India for IT help overseas. "What began more than a decade ago as a way to cheaply supplement overworked internal application developers with workers from India has grown into a worldwide search for the right mixture of talent, resources, and cost savings to create and manage today's most complex IT environments." http://www.informationweek.com/story/IWK20020207S0011
