STRDBGSVR isn't working

For reasons I cannot discern, the STRDBGSVR command is not working on one of my 400s. I issue the command and within seconds I get a message back saying the job completed normally. The job is not started in the QSYSWRK subsystem and if I run the ENDDBGSVR command, I get a message saying it was never started so it can't be ended. On another 400, it seems to be working fine. Both are running V4R5 and are pretty current on the PTFs. Any ideas?

I had the same problem. The debug server has ended but the prestart jobs are still running. I got the following info from midrange.com Hi Ed, One of the debugger gang suggested that the cause may be that there are prestarted jobs Q5BWHSRV still hanging around when you issued the STRDBGSVR command. Try the following steps: 1. Use command ENDPJ SBS(QSYSWRK) PGM(QSYS/Q5BWHSRV) OPTION(*IMMED) to kill the prestarted job. 2. Then use command WRKACTJOB Shift F2 to make sure there is no job Q5BWHSRV in subsystem QSYSWRK. 3. Now use command STRDBGSVR to start the debug server. Let us know if this solves the trouble. Since that time we have not been able to start the debug server using the STRDBGSVR command. When I enter the command, I immediately get a completion message that my job completed normally. If I look at my job log for the command it shows me the following message, "Start Prestart Jobs command is not allowed now." Cause . . . . . : The Start Prestart Jobs (STRPJ) command is not valid at this time for reason 1. See reason 1 shown below: 1 - The prestart jobs for program Q5BWHSRV in library QSYS in subsystem QSYSWRK are already active.
