Dan, I gave up on Win 98 about a year ago when I started using Code/400 exclusively (instead of SEU) because all kind of strange things were happening (not the least of which was that Win98 would not shut down). Now on Windows 2000 Pro, and have had no problems at all. John. Does it not bother anyone else that Windows 98 will not shut down after Code 400 project organizer and Code Editor have been used? What is the secret to having all the CODE bits and pieces end properly? WDT 5.1 SP5

Have you tried going to the Windows Update site? There is a direct link from the <u>START</u> button. This site provides various updates including what MS calls critical updates. Sometimes a download from this site can cure what ails you. Dave

Do yourself a favor and ditch the Windows98. It was shaky when it came out and has not improved much since. We require our developers to use Windows 2000 with Code/400 because it's so much more stable. We don't need Microsucks Windows problems frustrating development efforts. Let's not blame this on Windows 98. The problem is in the application, not the OS. The fact is, Windows 2000 does a better job of protecting itself from errant applications. If you guys want to solve the application problem with the operating system, that's fine. I don't. I want each application to behave. I have tweaked my Windows 98 installation by installing all the fixes and doing other operational updates over the last few years and have a pretty stable environment. The version of CODE that I had running before upgrading to WDT 5.1 SP5 worked pretty well after I turned off lots of the startup code. Ditto, turn off all the startup options that WSDT put in and Win98 should shut down like before. Use the Startup tab in Msconfig. Dan, I used to have the same problem with a lot of other software installed on my Windows 98 PC. Ever since I put additional 256 MB of RAM, my PC shuts down properly. I'm also using WDT 5.1 SP5.
