The AS/400 has a feature known as LDAP (lightweight directory access protocol), which is elabled through the directory services option in opsnav. Ot basically gives you a dynamic address book based on the AS400 SDD. I helped a customer cobble together a cheap e-mail system on the 400 using pop-3 and smtp. It works great, and using an old netscape e-mail client, we got LDAP to work. The next step for the customer was to use IE 5 and Outlook express. Now that we use that client, LDAP doesn't work, and the error message in the 400 job log says that it is running LDAP version 2, and it appears OE 5 is running version 3. So, does anyone know if a) IBM is planning to upgrade to LDAP 3 for V4R3 (as a PTF) or V4R4? or b) Any cheap browser/e-mail clients out there that will support LDAP 2 and Pop-3? or c) any way to force OE 5 to use the older LDAP standard? Thanks, Art Blose
