I recommend purchasing the book "Java for RPG Programmers" and also purchase the work book and CD that goes with it. Start reading the chapters and doing the work book exercises and labs.

Java is huge, like 20,000 classes! That's like saying "I want to learn the US Government". What are you specifically wanting to learn, J2EE? If so, that means you need to learn HTML, style sheets, some javascript too. I have found the SCJP books very good at explaining the basics, like http://www.amazon.com/Certified-Programmer-310-055-Certification-Guides/dp/0072253606 . And for iSeries specific Java, get the book "Java at Work on the iSeries" http://www.mc-store.com/5029.html . Chris

Taking a class in a community college really helped me to overcome fear of OOP - just make sure the instructor is competent.

Twenty thousand classes...That's a lot of tuition and books. Has anyone ever completed all 20,000 of them? That must be equivalent to a "doctoral" degree in Java? Hoo-hoo :-)

Hi everybody ! I'm a RPG programmer for several years, but I would like to start with Java, on my own, of course. Can anyone tell me where can I find useful documentation to begin with? Thanks in advance. JC
