IMMED PTFs can be installed without an IPL. Check for any Special Instructions, though. For example, immediate PTFs for spooling may require you to end the QSPL subsystem before applying, restarting it afterwards. Similar things may be needed for server PTFs, or ending NetServer. But in general, if it says *IMMED, it means there's some way of applying it without an IPL. If there are no special instructions, you're home free.

I'm looking at putting a couple of ptfs on our AS/400. I'm nervous about Loading and then Applying a PTF *IMMED. If the PTF instructions say that you can apply *IMMED, does that mean that an IPL is not required? Or how do I know when an IPL is required when I install the PTF? Thanks in advance. TIM
