Remote Operations Console

We recently installed a 270 with Operations Console at a customer site. The console will not stay connected for more than a couple of minutes. In a looooong series of conversations with IBM, they have determined that there is probably an issue with timing of internal functions on the AS400 side. I would suggest that you rattle their cage and tell them that this is a known problem. Good luck!

IBM probably also had you check for PTFs, but it bears mentioning. I did a search of V5R1 PTFs for 'console' and got 138 of them!

We have just replaced our 4 400's with and 820 with 5 partitions. We are having a devil of a time with the Remote Operations Console. It seems to be very tempremental. The LIC card seems to go away, quite frequently, and we have to IPL to get it back. When the card "goes away" we loose all access thru Remote Console. Is there a "better" way? When it works, it's great. But it is very unreliable. Is anyone else experiencing difficulties with Remote Console? We do not have dedicated consoles for each partition. Does it work better on Windows 2000 vs NT or ....? Any comments are greatly appreciated.
