Most shops I know of (with the exception of thoses still using CISC boxes) have an unwritten policy of waiting for support of a release to expire prior to upgrading to a newer release. As it happens, there are advantages to this. The princiciple advantage being having the "other guy" try it out first, and waiting for the reports. With support for V4R5 extended to December, and V5R2 expecting a debut in July, I can see many shops bypassing V5R1 altogether. Dave

I pass this on for what it is worth. I recently heard that IBM is "repackaging" the V5R1 Upgrade to fix some of the problems that we "could" run into. Don't ask me which problems. This "repackage" is supposed to be available in March time frame. The sugggestion was that doing the upgrade with this new media, if you can wait, will be better. I have already upgraded to V5R1 and didn't have any major problems, but we don't have very many IFS objects. FWIW Chris

But...if they DO decide to go to V5R1 then it sounds like a good idea to get the "new" media when it is available.
