I'm missing from this tip the TCPIP services required to be active to be able to activate the remote SQL. In a controlled environment, not all services are active, needing to know which ones are really required and the implications of having them. I cannot remember just now which ones are. I'm sure someone else may put some light onto this.

I use to run SQL on remote system from "AS400 operation navigator". Is there advantages to do it your way (I am most thinking about performances) ?

Can the connect statement be used in a stored procedure? I can get this all to work interactively, but what I want to do is create an SQL stored procedure that connects to a remote AS/400 database and then returns data. But I can't get the procedure to compile. Any ideas? The idea is to use this as a replacement for DDM connections.
