If you want to set up an environment of Apache, MySQL & PHP on your windows box, I recommend WAMP server http://www.wampserver.com/en/

The installation of all three is rolled up into one, and you get a nice tray icon to manage them with.

An interesting alternative is to use Zend's new Zend Server CE. Since at some future date this is likely to replace the current Zend Core on IBM i you have a chance here to familiarize yourself with the interface etc. http://www.zend.com

A good choice for Mac users like myself is MAMP http://www.mamp.info/en/mamp/index.html

And then there's also XAMPP from Friends of Apache. http://www.apachefriends.org/en/index.html which now has versions for Max, Linux, Windows, etc.
