I hope someone out there can help me; I've been around the block and back with IBM and NO ONE could give me a difinitive answer. I have a 9337 model 580 external disk unit attached to our AS/400 and installed in an old AS/400 rack. We want to convert the disk unit from rack mounted to a tower assembly model that we have only read about in the 9337 service manual. IBM has the parts for the tower assembly, listed in the manual, but no one there could say that we could just take the existing rack mount enclosure and slide it into the tower assembly case and have it work. The rack mount enclosure and the tower assembly enclosure look identical according to the diagrams, but have DIFFERENT PART NUMBERS! IBM couldn't say for certain that the difference in part numbers was because they are not compatible parts. We could just order it and try it, but if it doesn't work, the part is not returnable; a $2,000 gamble. IBM suggested I try to find someone (CEs, other end-users) who have heard of, or better yet tried to perform, this procedure. If anyone could help me, I would really appreciate it!
