You may have to redefine the session name within the PC5250 emulation program. Dave

We are migrating to Client Access Express from Netsoft Elite. We had an instance yesterday when our frame relay circuit dropped for a brief period. We have PCs with name sessions that dropped and when communications was restored, it created new sessions, C, D and ignored the previous sessions that were active; A,B. We have to use named sessions to connect to programs on the iSeries. Are there any solutions to this problem?

Two settings in CA may have caused this. Under Communications > Configure, Auto Reconnect is probably checked, and under Workstation ID you have hardcoded a device name, but placed either the * or = suffix, which causes the system to auto increment the name, if already in use. Short network disruptions will break the connection to the system, but unless you have the system disconnect set extremely short, the iSeries still carries the previous session as active. While reconnecting, the CA emulator creates the new session and name. HTH Dale
