If we are killing ourselves with these high open data paths, is it possible to fix them. We have upgraded the hardware to 320-2052, there are plenty of memory and disk, yet the symptons are still there. I am not familiar with application programming but I know throwing more hardware at it is not the solution. Your suggestions will be appreciated. ================================================== ============================== =============== Proper system design is your answer. You need to analyze the flow of your system(s) from an I/O perspective. Determine the most appropriate manner to normalize your data, and then implement the solution. You will find that you probably can get to the end result with a great deal more efficiency. CASE tools often generate more open paths than anybody would ever want. Were these apps generated by CASE tools? P.S. I did two stints at Pfizer at the Brooklyn plant. I remember S/38s being there as late as 1994! David Abramowitz
