How can we transfer a data file from the PC to the 400. We do not have a FDF file. When we try the transfer, the file comes in as a src file instead of a pf-dta file.

Try copying the file to a folder in QDLS and then use the command CPYFRMPCD. If it doesn't work correctly the first time, change the "translate table" and "format" parms until it works correctly. To get the .fdf for the future, turn around and use C/A to download it back to the PC and have it created. HTH Scott

We do not have the QDLS library on our system. Should we create one?

It should already be there. Tpye the command WRKFLR and press enter. You should see a display with "Work with Folders" at the top. The very top parm should say "Folder" and have a forward slash "/" in it. All of the folders you see listed are within the QDLS file system. You should be able to map your PC to these folders through network neighborhood. Copy the PC file to one of these folders through network neighborhood. You shouldn't have to create QDLS. If someone had deleted it, you would be having problems. Scott

QDLS is not a Library, it is a File System. Every AS/400 has one as far as I know.

If you do not wish to create a database on the AS/400 first, here's one thing (of many) that you can do. Create the file transfer, so that the created file on the AS/400 will be 12 bytes longer than it needs to be. Transfer the file. Use the CRTPF command, to create a Physical File with the correct file length. You do not need to create a DDS source member to do this. Use the CPYF command with the FMTOPT(*CVTSRC) parameters to copy the data in the first file, to the second file. Your second file should be what you want it to be. Dave

Perhaps security prevents "seeing" QDLS!?! Dave

Hello All, Can anybody direct me to a "cheat sheat"/"cook book", etc. for people like me who receive an e-mail with an as/400 savfile attached and don't know what to do with it. All I want to do is make sure it ends up in my library on the as/400. It's a small file with one logical. Many thanx in advance, Rick C.

Rick, The easiest way I have found is to use BlueZone FTP from Renex.com. It is a free FTP program that works wonderfully with the 400. Just pre-create a save file on the 400. Point at the save file on the PC and send it to the save file on the 400. It really is that easy. Bill

Bill, Many thanx for the help. I did download it but having a problem configuring it. I'm pretty sure I configured correctly. However, every time I go to connect, I get 'unable to connect to host" and bottom left it says "QUIT". Any ideas ?? Again, many thanx in advance.

Rick, Hmm. I can't remember if I had problems when I first started using it or not. Here's how my configuration screen looks: Host Address: the tcp address of the 400 Host Type: IBM AS/400 TCP Port: 21 Initial PC Directory: N: emp (This shouldn't cause any problems) Initial Host Directory: Savefiles (This is the lib where we keep all of our savefiles) Then the user name and password. It is not an anonymouse signon. Have you looked for a job log after it quits? Bill

Can't thank you enough for pointing me to that site. Gotta be smarter than the keyboard, I didn't have the ftp server started on the as/400 side. Started it, all is well. It's a pretty slick product for free, how do they do that ? Adios and thax.
