Mike, More info please: Which version of CA? What SP level on NT? Is it truly workstation, and not Server? What does "problems" mean? How are you connecting? Bill

Bill, I have tried both Client Access V3R2M0 and Client Access Express version 4.3. The PC is running Windows Nt workstation 4.0, service pack level 6. I am able to install the software and set up the AS/400 connection, but when I attempt to establish a session using 5250 the screen remains black and all I get is a 657/658 connection error at the bottom. We are connecting using a local network and of which the AS/400 is part of. Hope this information helps. Thanks for your help ahead of time. Mike

Make sure the user that is attempting the connection is in the AS/400 system directory. You can check/add via WRKDIRE. I assume you are using a TCP/IP connection. If not using DNS, make sure an entry for the AS/400 is in the HOSTS file. Make sure that host server jobs on AS/400 are running. You can do a STRHOSTSVR *ALL, but subsystem QSERVER must be running to process the command. Something a little bit more obscure - make sure user profile QUSER is working properly. We had a situation where our QUSER got disabled and we had many strange symptoms until we got it fixed.

Kim, Thanks for the help - the entry was missing in the HOSTS file. I had trouble finding that file before, but I was able to find it and put the entry in. Thanks again. Mike
