Thank you for taking your time. I'm new COBOL/400 programmer. I would like to work with COBOL/400 program at home after work. It must sound stupid. However, I'm wondering if there are some software or ways I can work with COBOL/400 even though my PC is not connected to AS/400 server at the company or others. Like dos operation system with Windows, C++ compiler, and etc. Is there any sample project(real world level)on-line from which I can create several programs. (example billing, screen, customer info in one project)? Unfortunatelly, I can not have any chance to work with whole application. I will thank for any advice. Will

The only PC based COBOL compiler that mimics the entire environment may be available from California Software Products. It is called Baby/400, and the COBOL compiler is an add-on to this product. It is very expensive. Microfocus COBOL offers an ANSI '85 compiler for the PC, but does not include the AS/400 extentions. David Abramowitz

Realia COBOL is also an excellent PC based compiler. But it doesn't offer the proprietary COBOL/400 features. If you want to use COBOL/400 at home, your best bet is to connect to an AS/400 though telnet. If you can't do that, using COBOL/400 at home will be very difficult, if not impossible or practical.

I've been told the site <a target=_new > href="http://www.internet400.com"><a target=_new > href="http://www.internet400.com">http://www.internet400.com</a></a> provides a time share facility over the internet.
