I am experiencing serious problems with a Perle controller, model 594, attached to my AS/400. The controller drops devices and then fails with no indication as to why. I'm also not getting any answers from the people at Perle. Has anyone out there had similar problems, or heard of similar problems

Let think in this way Suppose we got the tape which contain objects not in any of our 2 AS/400 with the tape media which only have in one AS/400. But we want the objects to be in another AS/400. So what would be the best way to do?

Panida, If I am reading this correctly you are saying you have a tape to restore to one of 2 AS/400s, and the tape device for the media is attached to the wrong AS/400. If this is the scenario then I see 4 options; (1) If your systems are connected via a network, restore to the AS/400 with the correct device and use SAVRSTLIB or SAVRSTOBJ to move them to the correct system. (2) If your systems are networked, restore to the AS/400 with the correct device, create a SAVF, save the restored objects to the SAVF and use SNADS to SNDNETF to the correct machine. (3) Restore to the AS/400 with the correct device, and save the objects to a media shared/supported by both systems. (4) Borrow or buy time on someone else's AS/400 that has the devices to support the media you need and the media sent to you. Regards. Jack McGuigan - MIS Manager - American Life Ins. Co.

Has anyone out there had similar problems, or heard of similar problems Im have two perle 494's and one 594 using tcpip over ethernet. They have been very stable lately. Most of the problems (in the past) were caused by communication line problems, a controller on the perle no starting up after an IPL, or power problems at the remote site. There is a setting on the CTLD that causes the AS400 to drop all devices on a controller after the last device on that controller signs off. The parameter is Switched disconnect (SWTDSC) this should be set to *NO. PTF's and controller software updates have solved most of the earlier problems. Does your perle have multiple cards? Do they all fail at the same time? Are you using active hubs?

Yes, we had similar experience with a Perle 594. It was one of the early 594's so because of its age we finally decided to replace it as it was getting steadily worse. Sorry I can't suggest any better solutions.
