Has any body been able to get the Motoroala UDS modems to dial using the phone number in the cnnnbr field in the controller description. I am trying to use this v.24 port as a back up to connect to a second AS/400 over dial up lines when necessary. I have been succesfull in getting the two machines to talk (by manually dialing the modem), but cannot seem to get the UDS to dial automatically when I issue the start pass thru command. The procedure works fine when using my IBM 7855 ECS modem. Any help is appreciated. Michael C

First thing to do is to make sure the modem actually supports autodial. I remember once upon a time working with some *OLD* Motorola modems, the kind with the switch you have to turn after you've dialed the number and the other modem has answered. Those modems simply didn't have the support for the autodial commands that were sent to it. Nothing you can do about that...

If your using this in a Synchronous mode you need to make sure that the old UDS modem uses the V25BIS dial commands. If it's Async you can use the standard ATDT commands. Take a close look at the "Dial command type" on you line description for further information.
