View Full Version : problem with NetServer

We are running an IPCS on our AS400 with 5 workstations. We use NT Server 4.0 and NT Workstation 4.0 on the workstations. We have the password change interval on the AS400 set to 60 days. When a users password expires, if they change it on the AS400, it also changes it on the NT Server but if they don't remember to change the password on their workstation, when they log in with their old password, they get just the workstation session, no network connection and no printer share. This is correct but when they change their workstation password and restart their session, they get the network connection but the NetServer printer share still won't let them see the print queue. It takes an IPL of the AS400 to clear this condition and let them see the print queue again. Is there another way to clear this without an IPL?

You have the case of the disabled user for AS/400 NetServer going on. Your QMAXSIGN value on the AS/400 must be quite low (probably still at 3) so your user attempts to access the AS/400 NetServer print share after changing the AS/400 password, but not the PC password and exceeds this limit. Under the covers, there have been a couple of signon attempts to the AS/400 without the user being aware of it and as soon as they attempt the actual signon they are disabled because we've turned on the flag that says they have exceeded the QMAXSIGN value with an invalid password. The way to ensure that this is what truly happened is to look at the job log (DSPLOG QHST JOB(QZLSSERVER)) for the timeframe in question should show the disable user profile messages and find the user name there. To correct the problem, either do a CHGUSRPRF for the affected profile or stop and restart AS/400 NetServer. Either of those will clear the problem. Many more of these trouble shooting tips can be found on our web site located at www.AS400.ROCHESTER.IBM.COM/netserver/index.html.

Aleesa, Thanks for the quick response. I tried to get to the web site you gave but I get a "page not available" message. Walter

Try http://www.as400.ibm.com/netserver/index.htm From there you can go to Informational APARs, and II11239 has the tip about doing a CHGUSRPRF user_profile ASTLVL(*SAME) to re-set the profile as far as Netserver is concerned. You shouldn't have to IPL.

I apologize on the web site address. I always forget to take the Rochester out of it. Ken has the correct reference in his post. It really is http://www.as400.ibm.com/netserver/index.html.
