The premature reports of the death of RPG, remind me of what they were saying about COBOL when I first started in this business - over fifteen years ago. The amount of legacy code (still running beatifully) at there for COBOL and RPG will insures that both languages will be around awhile. There's never time to do it right, but.....there's always time to do it over.

[/i] Excellent point Jo Ann. Computer language development doesn't take place overnight, and they don't die overnight. Rather than dying, the languages get stronger, and we as programmers have to contend with keeping up with seemingly endless language versions. RPG II/III/IV is a good example. C/C++/ILE C is another. As is Cobol/36/400/ILE Cobol. With Java it was 1.0 (about 250 methods), to 1.1 (over 500 methods), to 1.2 (??? methods) in the future. Proven languages change, but they sure don't die that often. RPG is a proven language because it works.
