HTML newsgroup reader?

In addition to this forum, I try (emphasis on 'try') to follow comp.sys.ibm.as400.misc. Since I am behind a firewall which doesn't allow the use of a news reader, I use deja.com to accomplish this. Does anyone know of another site to read newsgroups via HTML? Thanks, Steve

You can access newsgroups via the browser. Simply use news followed by a colon, and do not use the "//". Try it at news:comp.sys.ibm.as400.misc While we're on the subject, , , ,On my wish list is a newsreader for 5250land. Since almost all newsgroups are text based, I don't know why a Newsgroup reader is not added to TCP/IP utilities. I don't believe it is more complex than a TELNET client to build....? Dave

David, I think this will only work if you can connect to an actual news server, via an ISP or a "public" news server. I have tried links to public servers before (e.g. news.cti.gr) but have never had much luck. Terry

"Since I am behind a firewall which doesn't allow the use of a news reader" Maybe I should have phrased the problem as "since I'm behind a firewall which prohibits outgoing traffic on port 119 (which is the "news" port), is there a website other than deja.com that allows review of newsgroups?" That being the case, it won't matter. You will not be able to read any newsgroup. Dave

Steve, Yes there are many. The number is reduced by a couple if you want the ability to reply to posts. I believe MailAndNews.com might fit the bill. I looked for this once and just used MetaCrawler.com to do a web search for News Reader (or something like that). Bill
