    Sure, though I'd use a qshell script. That's native to the IFS; I don't think REXX is, though you could use a qshell script to create and run a REXX script in the QSYS.LIB file system.

    Ken, Thanks for the info. I don't seem to have Qshell installed on my system (at least the STRQSH command is not present). Do you know how to install it ? Martin

      Can you write some kinda script that could be run from the IFS to install a new program ? Do stuff like, save off the existing file to a savf, copy the new file from the savf on the IFS onto the system in it's place, etc? TIA

        On V5R3, Qshell is 5722SS1 option 30. If you have Cume PTF CDs, re-install them after you install Qshell. PTFs aren't installed if the product isn't, so you'd need to rerun the PTF load-and-apply, or download them manually.
