I don't have RPG or Cobol on my box (strict vertical market package). But I use SQL to enhance the package periodically. Question: could the RPGLE program have been an SQL procedure?

This is probably possible, however I think the biggest challenge would be calling the API from the SQL, specifically dealing with the return values. I don't know that it would be impossible, just wouldn't be exactly easy.
