  • Do you have to restore the system to add new DASD (mirrored)?

I would suggest backing your system up in its entirety at least once. You can then add the drives to the asp and turn on parity protection on the newly added drives. You shouldn't have to do a restore as long as you don't have 2 drives fail in your raid set while you are adding the additional dasd. I would then do some load balancing on your asp or you could see some performance hit due to all activity happening on your new drives.

Thanks for the feedback, John. Your answer raises another question for me: Exactly whadda ya mean by load balancing on the asp ? Changing those values on the WRKSYSSTS screen ?

When you add additional DASD to an existing system that is mirrored/parity checking protection, do you have to backup the system, install the new DASD, & then restore the system or can the system simply incorporate the newly added DASD into the single ASP that we have ?? TIA, Martin
