  • DHCP Unable to allocate reply packet buffer of size 1232

It appears that users that are trying to connect via our backup DHCP server are unable to connect to the network. The DHCP server job on this backup server gives this message: TCP5749 Unable to allocate reply packet buffer of size 1232. Has anyone seen this and have a fix? Here is some additional info: If I stop and restart this DHCP server, users can get on - but appears that they are connecting now through the primary server. The primary is AS/400 Model 720 and the backup is AS/400 Model 500. This problem just started occuring in the last few weeks. We have installed a Cisco router in the last couple of weeks. Also, had a "broken" 8660 switch that had to be replaced last week. We have ethernet and token ring users. Appears this latest problem is with token ring users.

Marcia, Did you follow up on the recommended section of text for this message? Here it is, if you didn't:
Recovery . . . : Look in the job log for messages prior to this one that might indicate some other system problem that could have contributed to this error. You should also look in the DHCP trace log files for entries that might indicate a reason for this failure. If you did not have DHCP logging activated, then you should activate it and start the server again. Use AS/400 Operations Navigator to find the current DHCP logging settings and to change them if necessary. Correct any other problems found in the logs and then try starting the DHCP server again. Since memory allocation shortages can also be caused by system load at the time of the request, you should try starting the server again even if no other problems were found in the logs. If the problem persists, contact your next level of support.

Yes, I did. No prior messages and nothing in the log. No space problems on that AS/400 either. Stopping and starting the DHCP server seems to have allowed the users to connect; however, it appears they connected thru the primary server.
