  • AFP from DJDE

We have used since 1988 a XEROX printer with DJDE statements in all of our RPG sourse to tell all form how to print. In our future is a network on our 400 with an image system as a very real possibility. We have discovered thru our research that XEROX DJDE is not convertable or widely used. AFP is all we keep hearing. Beaing in mind that we would like to design all forms once we would love to convert fromour DJDE spool file to a COLD output for image but we have discovered this to be impossible. So we are mulling over the possibilty of starting to change all our source to AFP. 2 Questions Is this avavailbe ona V3R2 CISC box? Do we have to buy any tools or such? Can we convert from DJDE to AFP or do we start from scratch? What in a nutshell is AFP? any source code changes? All we ever hear from vendor after vendor is Don't you have AFP? Sorry can't help with DJDE. This would also solve a problem that is getting bigger by the day. We have one Xerox printer for entire company..when it breaks we all stop cause we cannot print even a listing on any other printer (even if we had one). It is not like we will run out and do this tommorrow. But we are looking to fuutre and the Xerox is a roadblock to us it appears. I have tried on IBMs site to educate but I need a nutshell explanation of AFP. Thanks. It compiled so it must work. Karl Lauritzen - Second VP Project Development National Lloyds Ins

    AFP from DJDE

Karl, We are running a PC based application that converts XEROX DJDE code to AFP. There are two products from Mobius Management Systems Inc., 1 Ramada Plaza, New Rochelle, NY, 10801, (914) 637-7200. One product is View Direct for Networks which builds various tables. The other product is Document Direct which does the conversion for printing. Both are designed to work with their mainframe product called Infopac which does Report Management. But the PC products also work with the AS/400. One of our AS/400s is WAN connected to a mainframe with Infopac. We run JCL on the mainframe to "REPLICATE" a particular report image to a physical file and FTP it to the AS/400. The replicated file contains the text, special form overlay, and DJDE. View Direct is invoked to take the downloaded file and replicate it to an AS/400 folder, or PC Directory, or Server Directory, while building tables of; (1) the Report List, (2) Report Recipients, (3) Archived Reports (previous versions), plus others. Document Direct is used by users allowed to view the reports and/or print them on Network or AS/400 printers. If you substitute a CLP program, for the JCL, to do a CPYSPLF, you have the same AS/400 result. For what it's worth. Jack McGuigan - MIS Manager - American Life Ins. Co.

Thanks Jack. That is the first I have heard of any product that does anything to a DJDE. We are a ways of of doing anything but any info at this time helps. It compiled so it must work. Karl Lauritzen - Second VP Project Development National Lloyds Ins
