I know you said your post was light, but I'm replying serious. Thanks for the post. The last time I remember someone predicting this kind of scenerio was when Japan started taking over the automobile market. However, it's much more possible with India. I don't think it'll work out that way, though. Did you know there is already a move in India to outsource to China where it is cheaper? I think the world is moving faster and faster and more and more countries will be getting in the game. It will get closer and closer to a world economy. And no one country will be able to dominate one area for very long (it will more likely be a series of short dominations, circling the globe). I agree that the people of the US should prepare for our standard of living to drop, just as we should prepare for other countries standards to increase (along with their abilities to compete with us). The phone companies are have struggled because, in the old days, they never had competition, and so they didn't develop a management structure and culture to be able to handle competition. In the same way we as a country will have to struggle because we have not had much serious competition from the rest of the world. Guess what. That's changing. Get ready. It's going to be a rough ride. It's up to us whether our standard of living falls just some, or indeed falls below other countries. -dan
