    Default Migration S/36 to AS/400

This is a far more complex question than may be answered in a paragraph or two on this forum. Yet the short answer is: It depends. Database Considerations: If your current system uses mult-format files, that is a single file with two or more record layouts, you may want to think about redesigning your database. Similarly if there are many complex sorts, and a great deal of work files such design considerations can not be handled by an automated product. On-line Programs: The biggest consideration here is the use of screens which display multiple records at one time. In AS/400 land this is called a subfile, and there is no equivalent on the S/36. An automated product will not take advantage of this feature when converting the code. Batch programs: Due to the advantages of AS/400 utilities, combined with database considerations, long batch steps may be eliminated, redesigned, or otherwise transmogrified. An automated tool will merely convert the programs, but will not take advantage of many features. If I can be of further assistance, you may reach me at mailto:105445.2515@compuserve.com for additional info. Dave
