It has been a couple of years since I worked in an office that had Turnover Change Mgt software from SoftLanding, but I can remember that you check-out source members against a specific "task" or "project" and while checked out - others receive messages when attempting to check out the same program. When the developer is completed and ready to implement the programming, it is considered "promoting" the project and ALL source members corresponding to the project list are promoted together. Because of the limits within Turnover not easily allowing multiple individuals to be maintaining the same source as well as remembering to "promote" all sources affected, IMO this is an excellent product. A little spin-off, but some friends that I speak with regularly are looking to purchase Turnover Change Management tool towards compliance of SOX (Sabarnes Oxley). I am not sure where this would fall within the compliance -- security, auditing, etc. but it is an excellent tool. From my experience, it takes a few projects to become familiar with using after a little up-front training. HTH - Lee.

I have worked with both Softlanding Turnover and Aldon CMS. For the last several years on Turnover. I liked CMS better. CMS also handles multiple platforms all at the same time, like promoting RPG changes to a 400 and HTML changes to a LINUX server and VBS changes to a Wintel box all at the same time. And backing them all out if need be. Turnover, for a 400 shop, will definately do the job, though. Both Turnover and CMS can link with Hawkeye files to determine relationships and dependencies. -dan

I was part of a WebEx teleconference on Turnover recently (I'm pretty sure it was Turnover) and they indicated they could handle Java source on the IFS and I thought it could handle "deployment" to different platforms (not positive on this though as I don't work in that type of environment).

I worked with Turnover while I was at Parmalat/Archway Cookies in Battle Creek, MI. It was a good tool when everything worked right. I had to add a field to a file and modify two programs to use it. The file was also used in a hundred other programs that just needed to be re-compiled. I couldn't convince Turnover that I didn't want to checkout the source just re-compile the programs. I ended up using Hawkeye to do the mass recompile. Apparently my proficiency in Turnover wasn't very high.

On our Turnover system, if I change the file, when I run the form, it gives me a list of all dependent objects and then I can put 1s by all I want, and it just adds them to the form. Works great. -dan
