Define the printer as a device, not as a remote outq. The remote outq configuration has always been flaky in my opinion. --buck

Thanks Buck.. It is set up to be a Device. and IPDS device and a writer. I use a PSF file as well. The printer just, stop printing, like there is a bad barcode. Thus the error it puts out. But I cant find bad barcode data. Instead of a Barcode, on its Last Print before croaking, its a Solid Thick Black Line, and then it stops printing with the error. Its ALL of our IPDS EThernet Printers. The 6708's do fine, but THEY will skip the barcode, leave it blank, like there IS something wrong. Rj

Well, you've already hit the high percentage answers, now it's time to work the low probability ones. Look at the job log for the print writer and find the error messages. Go to the IBM Support web site and search for PTFs that relate to those message IDs. It is possible that there are PTFs available for this problem. --buck

Default IPDS Printer and Barcode Error in Printing

Hi, I have 2 different types of IPDS Printers. A Laser IBM 4028 and and IBM 6400 series. 4028 on Twinax, 6400 on Ethernet. I have a program that prints code128 barcodes, a lot of them in the spooled file. Seems on an older printer, I get no errors, but on these two printers, I seem to get this error all the time after it prints about half way through. It WILL print the barcodes. But it stops.. "Bar Code Specification Check Exception at Printer at " and the printer number appears. And to printout it put on hold. I have the program using RLU with the Barcode Specs. Have debugged and actually outputted the data used in the barcode to another output spec so I can see if I had any bad data in the bar code fields used. I cant see any bad data, and the printer seems to just stop after about half way through the spooled file. Any one else have this same problem? or any ideas? Im at the point, that I feel its a setting on the device, or a setting in the RLU configuration. Im running out of clues. LOL. Thanks. Rj

On the IBM 6400 Series, apparently, the Page and Line setup were wrong, thus a barcode trying to print on a pagebreak crashed it. The FONT size .. (8 LPI, 15 CPI)... Didnt match the Page Size (66). We had to adjust the PAGE size to 88 (lines per page)in our PRTF POOF.. works great. In short, make sure, in your PRTF file, that the Lines per page, match the CPI (like.. 8 = 88, 6=66, etc). Rj
