I agree Chuck. I live in Wisconsin and the Rose Bowl just won't be the same without a Big 10 team playing in it. Pat

This year the Rose Bowl sold out. No, I'm not talking about ticket sales, I'm talking about tradition. Those of us in southern California just hate the idea of BCS. And after seeing what Oregon did to Colorado yesterday, it's clear that the BCS has made a mockery of the Rose Bowl's decision to join the BCS conspiracy. I suspect that after the BCS contract expires in 4 years the Rose Bowl will pull out of such foolishness. After all, the directors of the Rose Bowl, the Tournament of Roses, makes about 8 times as much money on the parade as the bowl, so they can afford to be selective. Because most of SoCal is a melting pot, we generally show hospitality to anyone who shows up for the game. After all, no matter who plays here there are literally tens of thousands of people from that city. However, this year is different. At a recent Lakers game there were a number of Nebraska players in attendance and they were announced and shown on the big screen during a timeout. The fans lustily booed them. This isn't like normal L.A. sports fans, and it's especially harsh to Nebraskans who are probably the nicest people you'll ever meet. However, it's just an indication as to how we feel duped by the BCS and it's abuse of the Rose Bowl. Just the thought of moving it from New Years at 2pm is enough to make one sob. In any event, it is Oregon, not Nebraska that belongs in the Rose Bowl. And who should their opponent be? Why, Illinois, of course. I rankle at the thought of foreigners sitting in my season seats! I'll need to buy a seat cover for the fall. ;-) chuck Opinions expressed are not necessarily those of my employer.
Chuck and Pat, I couldn't agree more! I was so busy doing year end things, that I paid no attention to what was happening with the bowl situation, until it was too late. I actually sat down in front of the TV on the first, surfing the channels, trying to find the Rose Bowl. Then I heard an announcement which stated it was being played on "Thursday", and with no PAC or Big teams in it. Truthfully, even though I, too, live in Badgerland, I'm not a big college football fan. But there are some traditions, like a New Years Day Rose Bowl, that should always remain pure, and stable. Thanks for letting me vent! Dale
