    Default Logical partion

From IBM Registered Knowledge Base document 22631216: To simplify the MI performance calculations, CPU cycles are scaled by the Licensed Internal Code (LIC) so that it will appear that a partition is using an integral number of processors. (For example, a partition configured for .5 processor is scaled so that it appears to be using one whole processor.) The excess cycles are charged to a dummy task called HvLpTask. HvLpTask is strictly for bookkeeping purposes and it is not really using any CPU.

Hi, We have upgraded to a 2 partition 810. I have noticed a job (when viewing WRYSYSACT) called HVLPTASK - which I assume is the HyperVisor job. If I have a job running at 40% I notice this task runs higher, If i have no activity then this job disappears. Can anyone tell me what it is doing? Is it regulating the system? TIA Carl

If you have partial processors assigned to a partition, let's say .5 processors, this means that half of the time that processor is active ... the partition will have use of the whole processor. There is no way that you can actually use only .5 of a processor. The HVLPTASK job manages the swapping of processors across the system. If you have NO partial processors assigned to a partition, you should NOT see the HVLPTASK job at all.
