Articles like this one improve greatly "my flexibility" as a programmer. But one question arises in my mind: If I had to go to the origin of this knowledge? I think Bob has to study and read constantly to get it and I would like to know which your sources are. Maybe this question is out of place, but I feel curious. Thank you.

Thanks for the comments. Your question is one that I've recieved a lot over the years. I call it the "Where do you learn all this stuff, Bob?" question. You're right, I constantly read the technical materials, and write test cases. In addition, I look for the best solution where there is no obvious one; this leads me to experiment. I've thrown out a lot of code over the years where the experiment has failed. I also have the good fortune to have know many of the original developers for the OS/400 operating system (i.e., CPF) and have been able to ask them directly for information when/where necessary. There's no magic bullet. Bob
