I have been told by my CE that I cannot stack the black box units to save floor space. I have heard a rumor that it is possible and that some people are doing it. Is anyone here stacking boxes? Thanks for your response.

There has been talk of people wanting to do this - but - in a rack not directly on top of each other. It has been discussed on the Midrange-L mailing list hosted on Midrange.com. Unfortuanately, I went to do a search of the archives and the archives aren't working. You might want to try yourself. I remember the conversations being that there is a company that has developed a rack for this purpose, I wanted to search the archives so I could give you a name. Bill
I guess it depends. In one shop, I have a model 200 over a model 620, but I wouldn't put a 620 over a 620. Rumor is, that there will be rack-mounted AS/400 soon in the offing. That might solve your problems. Dave
At the last COMMON one of the exhibitors had a solution that is supported by IBM. I'm still giving it some serious consideration. I can't locate the literature and can't remember the vendor. The list of exhibitors should be available on the COMMON web site. Anyway, their solution was to provide bottom/top open (all sides) platforms with lock bars for around the bottom. These came with a small portable fork lift, like a car jack. You pumped it to raise the machine to platform level, place it on the platform, and then pull out the lift. The lift and a 2 level platform was priced about 10K if I remember right. It seemed reasonable.
