    Default Run Remote Command

Does anyone know if the run remote command through IP is compatible between V3R2 and V4R4. I can run FTP, client access 5250 emulation, client access file transfers but not the run remote command. There are no exit programs active and the servers are running. I can issue a remote command (rmtcmd) from the PC DOS window to the other system with no problems. Any ideas? TIA Greg

Greg, I can issue a remote command (rmtcmd) from the PC DOS window to the other system with no problems. Are you trying to use RUNRMTCMD on the 400 to initiate a command on a PC? If so, then yes it works even on V3R2 using CA Express V4R4. I have it running on a client's V3R2 machine, using the V4R4 CA Express daemon. In order for a PC to accept a command, it must be running the Client Access Remote Command Server daemon. Go to the control panel CA applet, and select the Incoming Remote Command tab. If you don't want a user/pwd combo to be required on the RUNRMTCMD call, then enable all users (*). Otherwise add the specific user/pwd combos you want enabled. You then need to either check the box to start the daemon automatically with Windoze, or start it yourself by running cwbrxd.exe and cwbrxdsd.exe to shut it down. Doug

    Default Run Remote Command

I am trying to use RUNRMTCMD to send commands from one AS/400 to another. We have 2 400's connected with tcp/ip. I can connect with client access and get a 5250 session, I can use client access file xfer's. I can use FTP, all with no problems. When I try to use RUNRMTCMD in either direction I get an error saying "connection refused by host". All the servers are running on both systems, there are no exit programs on one box, the other is allowing entry in for the userid being used plus quser and qtcp. I can use rmtcmd from a dos window, executing the same command, and it works. one AS/400 is running V3R2, the other is V4R2. thanks

Greg, I am trying to use RUNRMTCMD to send commands from one AS/400 to another. Sorry, then I misinterpreted your question. I haven't used RUNRMTCMD between two 400's, so I can't offer much help. Did you try using NETSTAT *CNN on the remote machine to check the state of port as-rmtcmd (normally port 8475)? Try selecting option 5 (display details) to see if it gives you any clues. Doug

Greg - RMTCMD runs through the TCP/IP REXEC server. You should have 1 or more jobs under the QSYSWRK subsystem (under V4R2) beginning with 'QTRXC'. If you don't, it's because the TCP/IP REXEC server was not started (probably because the AUTOSTART SERVERS parm in the CHGRXCA is *NO). To start the REXEC server, either change AUTOSTART SERVERS to *YES so REXEC will start when TCP/IP is started or enter the STRTCPSVR SERVER(*REXEC). Alternatively, change the job attributes of the 'QTRXC' job(s)to LOG(4 0 *MSG), run your RMTCMD from the other 400 and look at the job log that is produced by the 'QTRXC' job. HTH, Steve

Thanks, I have found out that V3R2 does not have the rexec server, it can only be a client. That is the problem. NOW - How can I run a command on the V3R2 computer, (without setting up snads). Or if snads is the only option will it run over tcp/ip? Can I send a "call" command through FTP? Greg

It may be slightly different from AS/400 to AS/400, but from PC to AS/400, from the FTP command line, it's QUOTE SITE RCMD {command} Regards, Brian

I have seen this done using the Quote and/or literal command in FTP. Quote may be your better option. and Keep in mind the remote command authority may have changed during your upgrade.
