Help......im running personal communications on my pc to work on the AS400. I'm trying to take a file out of Office Vision (OV400) and put it into a microsoft word document. Can anyone help? Can I use personal communications or do I need to get setup with client access? Any help will be appeciated. John Batte jbatte_@hotmail.com

Make sure you have conversion software for RTF documents. It doesn't come on the Office '97 CD-ROM, so you have to go to the MS Word Download site (Sorry I don't know the URL). But This is free, and only takes a short time to download, and install on MS Word. Next Go into MS word and click on Open. Specify "all" files. If you have QDLS mapped as a network drive this becomes easier, click on that drive letter. If not click on network, then your AS/400 system name, and then QDLS. Open the folder which contains the document in question. Open the document. MS Word ask you if you want the document converted, click on the Rich Text Format option. You should now see your OV/400 document appearing in MS Word! You can now save this as an MS word document on your own PC. P.S. - The MS Word merge feature can use DB2/400 data if you have the ODBC drivers set up, and are also using MS Query! Dave

Can you see your system name in Network Neighborhood? If you can, then click on the ICON. A series of folders will appear. One of the folders will be QDLS, click on that. Another series of folders will appear. You should see the name of your folder here. Click on that folder. A listing of the documents within that folder will now appear. Find the document in question. The above directions can also be followed from the "Open File" menu in MS Word. When you finally get to your document and click on that you may be asked to translate the document. Select the Rich Text Format option. You document will now appear in MS Word, and may be saved as an MS Word document on your hard drive. Dave
