Default Using a router with a controller attached

We are currently upgrading our network and we would like to continue using some of our terminals that have printers attached. One solution has been presented to use a Cisco router for IP traffic and attach our Perle 394 Controller for our SNA traffic both over Frame Relay. Are there any shops that may be using a similar solution? Results or problems?

I've done this many times. Works great !!! Cisco has wonderful documentation (including the AS/400 line and controller definitions) to accomplish this.

Hi John, Just did this in our shop. seems to be working great so far, we have two sites with 394 perl controlers one site with 494 perl controler and one site with a 5494 IBM controler and all sites have Cisco routers, so far so good.

We are wanting to implement something along this line. We currently have 5394's on a leased, digital 56kb multi-point line. I have been told that many routers have an additional connector that can be used to drive the old 5394 controller while we use the ethernet connector to connect to the hub for the new TCP/IP devices. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has done this. I am especially confused about the connections at the host system. Is the SNA communications port that is currently attached to the CSU/DSU now going to be connected to the local router via that extra connector, or is it no longer used at all. And if it is no longer used, then what kind of addressing scheme is used to identify the devices that are attached to the 5394?
