XD-1 to XE-1
My client is planning to upgrade from OS/400 V4R3, to V4R5. At the same time they will be upgrading CA/400 from V3R2 (XD1) to V4R5 (XE1 - Express). I am confused as to what the upgrade process will do to the existing XD1 product: Will CA/400 V3R2 be deleted as CA/400 V4R5 is installed? or.... Will CA/400 V3R2 co-exist with CA/400 V4R5 as they are different licensed product numbers?? TIA for any assistance in this matter. Dave

David, I just checked my 170 running at V4R5. XD1 is still installed after we upgraded to V4R5. XE1 is on the system as well. 5763XD1 V3R2M0 Client Access/400 Optimized for Windows 5769XE1 V4R5M0 Client Access/400 Express for Windows HTH Chris

XD-1 to XE-1
David, We run both here. They co-exist as licensed products on the 400. On the desktop you can install CA/E (4.4 or 4.5) on top of CA/400 (3.2). Express sees it and uninstalls it (after a prompt asking if you want to do it). We are gradually moving all work stations to CA/E as we move to W2K. We have hit some wierd conditions with CA/E under W2K. We have 2 local work stations that can fully connect to one of the /400s (an 820) in the network, but no others. The others are a 500, 3 820s, 4 720s, 2 620s. The WS can verify connection, search and get a list of available resources under Navigator, but the emulation screen comes up blank and won't connect. Working to resolve this now. Other work stations with W2K or NT have no problems. I have a Dell desktop with NT and CA/E V4R5, and a Compaq laptop with W2K and CA/E V4R5 side-by-side. Neither has any problems with connectivity. Except when our routers go down like now. HTH. Regards. Jack

XD-1 to XE-1
Thanks to all, for the clarification. It seems confusing to have both products on the server. We plan to migrate the clients on an as needed basis, which begs the question: Once CA/400 V4R5 is installed, will the service level check automatically prompt the user to upgrade the client to V4R5? Dave

XD-1 to XE-1
Our experience is that CA(V3R2) will ask for a service pack upgrade rather than a change to CAE - We are running V4R4. I have been taking advantage of that to upgrade to CAE on the client PCs when the user calls about the message. The checking for updates by CA is dependant on a preset option in the original installation that can be turned off so I won't catch all upgrades this way.
