I've received Email twice within the last 2 weeks from Head Hunters with potential jobs for me. They took the Email address from the Forum. Is this allowed? I view the Forum as I do COMMON, no solicitation. Maybe I shouldn't. Any ideas? Regards. Jack McGuigan - MIS Manager - American Life Ins. Co.

    Jack,

Feel flattered they are interested and delete the dang mail.

I mean give them credit for looking in the forum, after all I come here looking for tips and help from the brightest 400 professionals. Why wouldn't they. Just trying to keep up....

I've received those unsolicited emails from headhunters who got my info from the Forum too, and I don't like it. To me, this is like walking into a furniture store and being pounced upon by furniture salesmen. The way I look at it, when I'm ready to buy, that's the time I'll go hunt for a salesman. I don't want them hovering over me while I'm thinking about it. At the same time, if I'm looking for a new job, then I'll search for a headhunter, maybe, if I think they can do me some good. I don't want them trying to get me to bite on their sales pitch just because they need to place a warm body in some shop somewhere. My opinion...this is absolutely NOT the place for sales pitches of any kind. This is a forum for sharing technical and related information. If we start getting innundated by commercials here, people are going to stop participating.

Don't provide your E-mail address here in the Forum. Already, many users are opting not to document their E-mail addresses here. It's your choice! Just an old mainframer caught in the Web!

Good point Frank. But, I'm reluctant to take that option. I prefer to make available any information related to contacting me....to members of the Forum.....for the purpose of the Forum, to introduce problems and contribute solutions.Solely my opinion.Regards. Generally, I trash unsolicited SPAM from headhunters unless they provide specific details in their initial message. There are so many of them who are just looking for a name or a body so they can send it off somewhere. BGCOLOR="#CCCCCC" >

If you haven't found what you need yet, you should probably try the industry association for the auto manufacturers. In Canada, it is called MVMA (Motor Vehicle Manufacturers Association). I don't know if it is called the same thing in the U.S. When I worked at General Motors, everyone had access to this info internally. If I remember correctly, every number in the VIN means something. We used to be able to tell which plant manufactured the car just by looking at the VIN. It has been about twenty (!!) years, so much has probably changed since then! Another place that probably would know is the SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers). I don't know what city they are based in, but am pretty sure it is a U.S. based organization. Debbie Gallagher
