Default Longer field names in OPM RPG/400

Does anybody know how to use database file having fields longer than 6-bytes in RPG/400? I know the fact that you have to rename fields in I-specs, however, the External Field prompt in I-specs allows field lengths upto 9-bytes only. One of the fields that I am trying to use in my program is 10-bytes longer. This file that I am trying to use happens to be from ALDON's change management software. Thanks for your ideas/suggestions in advance. Mukesh Shah

Check again. You can rename a 10-byte field name in the I specs of OPM RPG. Thank You Mr.Holt: Well two things happened yesterday as I was working on one of the applications. One, my PC interface uses ACCESS 5250 emulation interface (I had never heard of before) with Windows 3.11 (some change from WIN 95!). This "NEW" 5250 emulation somehow issues an error when using command prompt within SEU as you reach the end of the field (i.e. last byte). And you have to press RESET key since the input becomes inhibited. Secondly, it was too late in the day and I was tired and obviously impatient. Frustrated, I didn't take a moment to think about it, shut my PC off and went home. This morning with a fresh approach, everything turned out to be fine. But boy, Did I feel "EMBARASSED" if not "STUPID" for posting such a question!!! Thanks once again for your response.

Don't feel stupid or embarrased. It happens to all of us. color="blue">On Thursday, February 12, 1998, 08:45 PM, MUKESH SHAH wrote: Frustrated, I didn't take a moment to think about it, shut my PC off and went home.
