This is the scenario from the users point of view : The first time a user tries to connect to the AS400 and they receive the initial router verification, it fails almost immediately after they have entered their login and password with the error : MPTN error X'07' Rumba documentation tells me that a PTF package should be loaded onto the PC to fix the problem, but I know that creating a new controller fixes the problem. It is as though the AS400 has rejected the creation of any new device sessions, onto any of the existing controllers. If a second user tries to connect to the AS400 and their device sessions already exist on the system, these will be utilized and the user is able to signon. It only affect users who's device sessions, have been deleted. Checking through the AS400 history log, I have no indication that the PC has even tried to connect to the AS400. Any ideas ?
If RUMBA documentation says to load a PTF package on the PC, have you tried that? Scott Mildenberger
From the documentation I have the PTF is included in the version of the software we are running. Unfortunately my client has no maintenance agreement with the supplier, so I cannot contact them for support.
The users I support connect to the AS400 using MPTN and use APPC Controllers that allow Anynet support. Every few months I have a problem where users cannot connect to the machine, and my only way to resolve the problem is to create a new controller. Why, when I have a machine that only supports 800+ users have a had to create my 22nd APPC Controller just so that all of the users can connect. I have even written programmes to delete any VARIED off sessions, but this has not seemed to rid me of this problem. Can anyone shed any light on this confused administrator.
By MPTN, do you mean Multi Protocol Transmission Network architecture? If so, do you incorporate some kind of firewall and/or NAT in your AS/400? If your answer is yes for both questions, it might be due to miscommunications caused by certain incompatibilities between MPTN and AnyNet. It would appear that the AS/400 thinks that all previously connected sessions have never disconnected and is blocking additional connections so as to avoid congestion. Some suggestions: 1. Check if your AS/400's port 397 is blocked, if so, unblock it (after you create your next APPC controller). 2. If feasible, check if you can reset the controller by either varying off/on the controller or the line, or perhaps an IPL.
