Thread: OS upgrade using Central Site Distribution tape

Default OS upgrade using Central Site Distribution tape

I could be wrong about this, but I was under the impression that as of the past few years, all release media carried LIC for the machine on which they will be installed. If that is the case, you can not install an upgrade on machine "B" from media that was intended for machine "A". Perhaps someone else can clarify this. Dave

I install all my sites from the same set of media. I get the license codes for each system and have to enter them by I use the same install media to insure that my systems are mirrored.

Well, I've completed two systems out of eight so far! As Rich pointed out, I didn need to input the license codes for each licensed program that was updated. I did run into a small issue with Performance Monitor in that after the upgrade, I had to run a command to covert the performance data into the format required by V4R5 (cmd: CVTPFRDTA) Other than that, I've had no problems; load the tape, IPL off of it. Next morning, input license codes and convert performance data and I'm done. (my co-workers involved with upgrading our Novell servers are quite envious!) /Gino

Gino, What was your CvtPfrDta parameters? I followed what it said in the book, but it didn't make any sense. It said to ClrLib QmpgDta, then to Run CvtPfrDta and use the system help to fill in the parameters. There wasn't anything helpful in my version of help. Bill

I'm planning on creating a CSD tape to upgrade from v4r3 to v4r5 on 7 model 170s that we have out in the field. Anyone run into any odd problems when doing this? Well..it didn't work for me either... but.. I have our CE coming onsite today to swap out a failing battery pack on an I/O card. I'll ask him and see if he knows.
